I’m just so popular…

OK well at least in the blog world I am this week =).  I have been busy working on three blog posts for others today!  See below for details…

I was Chloe and Christy’s Featured Runner this week!  Check out the feature HERE

Grace HERE also asked me to write a guest post for her Blog grace, it’s amazing.  I decided to write about marathon/race training and weight loss.  I spent some time on this one so if interested check it out HERE.  Oh and become a follower of her blog!  We met while participating in Virtual Team in Training and ran the Princess Half in Disney together last March!  She’s great! Check her out!  But no too much…I don’t think her bf would like to much checking her out.

Jodi of RunJodiRun also chose me as this week’s Thumb’s Up Thursday Featured Runner!  I made sure I spent time on her questions so it would be different than Chloe and Chrsity’s.  Don’t worry I’ll post that link asap on Thursday =)

And last but not least, Courtney HERE gave me the “Cherry on Top Award”

The Rules:

1. Answer this question: If you had the chance to go back and change one thing in your life, would you and what would it be?

2. The second thing you have to do is, pick 6 people and give them this award. You then have to inform the person that they have gotten this award.

3. The third and final thing is, thank the person who gave you the award.

Hmm okay…

1) As much as I’d like to say I have no regrets because they have all shaped me, I would definitely go back and teach myself to love myself.  I spent years abusing and mistreating my body and I am VERY lucky to be back in good health but I could have saved myself years of pain.  Oh well, lesson learned right?

2) Okay 6 people (and I’m trying to pick people who haven’t received it yet so sorry if you have!)

I’m supposed to tell them all I tagged them but let’s see how loyal of reader’s they are =)  If you are tagged comment and let me know you saw your tag =) If not I’ll let them know later this week

3) Thanks Courtney for the tag!  We had an AWESOME time in Chicago and I will be seeing her in November at the Nike Women’s Marathon in San Fran!

Monday FunDay!

Sorry its late this week had a long weekend but here it is! However, before I get started I must tell you all that the running gene is really rubbing off on my family.  Yesterday my beautiful “baby” cousins (who is now 13) ran her first big race yesterday…the Annapolis 10 Miler!  She decided to do the race completely on her own and spent her summer training and yesterday she finished in 1:50 and I couldn’t be more proud!  Congrats Maggie!  You are a rock star I love you!

1,010 in 2010 Challenge!

Mostly everyone jumped this week!  So many are getting close to 1,010 and other goals!  Way too go guys!

I can’t track down races or recaps this week! If you got something let me know!

Giveaways!  Because we all love free stuff!

I have a bunch of giveaways still coming up so keep checking back!  And let me know if you have something you would like to add!

Wonderful Weekend!

Before I get going I’m just saying now, I am typing this on a computer without spell check so I apoligize now for the spelling/word choice errors that will most definitly ensue =)

Yesterday morning I headed out to the trail to meet up with my 5k training group.  Their race is 9/11 so we are getting down to it!  On the schedule was 2.5 mile for some 3 for others.  It was a gorgeous morning, finally a bit of a break in the heat and the group did so well!  They all have underestimated themselves so much and its so cool to see how they are all so much more capable than they thought in the beginning.

I was meeting up with Erin to finish off my scheduled 12 miles and she got there as the group was finishing up.  She helped cheer them in and just as they were leaving one of our participants pulled up to the trail (he was seeing family off to the beach and couldn’t make it earlier).  Erin and I joked that as punishment for being late he would have to finish the miles with us =)  But he ended up going 2 miles up with us and then we peeled back and he finished up a full 3.5 miles of running!  I was so impressed, the furtherest he had gone during training up to that point was only 2 miles!  And he did great!  Erin and I saw Joe off and we headed back out =)

Erin is great running company!  We held a nice pace for a while and than we slowed a bit.  Poor Erin had some ankle issues not too long ago to pushing too much speed too quickly was not in our plan.  I had her cracking up…as she slowed every once in a while I would hold my pace but zig zag back and forth on the trail so we stayed pretty close together.  The people behind us must have thought I was nuts.  We talked about all sorts of things, races, work, school, life, gear, skirts, headbands…the works.  When we had made it back to the beginning of the trail Gracie read 12.2 miles.  It would have really annoyed me not to make it to 12.5 so I looped back a bit to pick up a few more 10ths and finished with 12.5 miles under my belt.  It has warmed up a decent amount and we were both so thirsty, we downed some serious water.  And then we decided to meet up at Wegman’s for my FAVORITE whole wheat pumpkin muffins.  We sat outside talking some more and just as the sweat was finally drying (gross I know) we parted ways.  Can’t wait to meet up with her next week for our second official TNT run!

Once home, I grabbed a shower and a nap.  I’ve been feeling pretty drained lately so a nice little nap felt great.  My super cool boss had offered me some Ravens tickets for that night so I donned my Flacco jersey, helped my dad make some subs to tailgate, waited for J to arrive, and then J, Dad, and I headed down to meet up with neighbors, family, and friends for some good quality tailgate time.  We had a blast catching up with everyone and the game was alot of fun!  Ravens killed the Giants =)

So 12.5 miles, a nap, tailgate, great company, and football- good day in my book!  Today I had work followed by a staff meeting.  I work for an awesome store.  We are family owned and therefore our store is like a family.  Everyone is connected and treated/respected the same whether you are a part timers, newbie, manager, owner, etc.  We all work together (no one gets stuff with all the tough or boring jobs).  We all interact and get along so well.  I LOVE working somewhere that when you walk in the door people ask “how was your race?/how was your long run?/is your IT feeling better?/was the trail busy this morning?” you get the idea.  We all have a very similar passion and although many of them are speed demons, everyone is always so excited for each other no matter what your pace or results are.

As we were having our meeting I looked around the room and realized that every single person I work with is in good shape.  Seriously how cool is that?  Just thought I’d through that out there =)

So now I’m just hanging out watching TV and blogging.  I promise a good quality Monday FunDay tomorrow (let me know if you have something to feature!).  Just don’t have it in me today.  Plus I still have to face Tony tonight.  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!!!

Live. Give. Run.

3 Things Thursday

  1. Okay I have developed a strong love hate relationship with P90X.  It kicks my butt.  And today I woke up and was scared to move because EVERYTHING HURT!  Especially my upper body!  Washing my hair=misery.  Getting it into a pony tail=a challenge.  Sitting down, standing up, bending over, and trying to get shoes off the shelves at work today=OUCH!.  And you know what, I LOVE it!  I really believe this will make my body and therefore my running stronger.  J has been doing it with me and I am sooo grateful.  It makes it so much easier when someone is suffering with you.
  2. In less than a month I will be in SEATTLE!  Well the Seattle area.  The race earns me coaching credits and I get to spend the weekend with the likes ok T, Mel, Amanda (who has GRACIOUSLY offered her house to me thank you Amanda!), Jill, Kerrie, and Zoe (we are having a blogger baby shower for baby goober!).  So many cool people in Washington!  Did I forget anyone?  If I did I apologize.  See #1-my brain and body are fried.
  3. I LOVE all the headbands going on out there from all you awesome creative blog buddies!  Please check out my BBF (Best Blog Friend haha) Tonia’s etsy shop HERE, my awesome buddy Shelly’s Head bands on her Facebook page HERE, and my awesome West Coast TNT teammate Sandy’s BIC bands HERE.  Now I’m in love with this one headband on Sweaty Bands and if one of your lovely women can find anything similar (ie. Maryland Crabs baby!) I’ll be all over it =) And just in case you missed my post earlier today, I posted a Yurbuds review and giveaway HERE =)

My buds are YurBuds

And no I am not talking about friends or beer.  I’m talking about my super awesome most favorite ear buds.  I run with music.  I need to run with music.  It helps me regulate my pace and breathing and gets my adrenaline and energy up.  If I am with a friend I don’t always listen but if we ever run together, don’t be offended if I have one ear in.  I’m a good multi tasker.  I can listen to my friends and surrounding and the music too, even if I turn it way down.  I just like the beat.  But safety first of course.  If I’m not on the treadmill I don’t use both ears.  I also leave the side closest to traffic/passing runners and bikers free.

So why am I telling you all this?  Well glad you asked.  Last week I was contacted by a rep from Yurbuds.  I’m sure you have heard of Yurbuds but incase you haven’t, they are the most wonderful, custom fit, comfortable ear buds around.  I actually won my first pair from a blog giveaway and picked them up back at the Disney Princess Half expo and loved them from day one.  I was skeptical but the guy at the expo promised me 1) they will not fall out 2) they won’t make your ear hurt or ache after a while like most earbuds do, and 3) you can safe precious Ipod battery because you don’t need to set your volume nearly as high to get the same sound as standard earbuds.  They made good on all these promises =)

“These ergonomically brilliant, acoustically driven headphones provide an  unparalleled level of comfort and fidelity for athletes, runners, and  music lovers. The patented Ear-Lock technology guarantees a secure fit,  even at extreme activity levels.”-www.yurbud.com

So the fitting process is interesting.  You simply take a picture of your ear with a standard Ipod Earbud OR your ear with a quarter held up next to it, email it to them, and they determine what size is appropriate.

I was SO excited when they emailed me about trying these out.   As I said, I got my first pair back in march but sadly lost one of my Yurbuds in San Diego.  During the last 3 miles of the marathon, I started talking to a lady next to me and I ripped the headphones out by the cord rather roughly and my poor yurbud flew off the ear bud.  There was no turning back.  So I jumped at the chance to for another pair.

And of course I opted for the Susan B. Komen Pink addition

Yurbuds come with the costume yurbud ear bud covers, a nylon zipper pouch, and a set of ear bud style head phones (I just slipped the yurbuds over my regular head phones because I don’t like change).  So yes, this is an AMAZING product.  The $30 price tag may seem steep but they are totally worth it!

Don’t want to pay $30 but want a pair of Yurbuds?  Well they have generously offered to send one of you your own custom fitted pair!

Hott or Nott Humpday (hint hint WINNERS!)

That’s right people, it’s back!  This is what’s hott and nott in my books this week…

Hott

  • Winners of the Cam Band giveaway!  Winner #1 is Tracy of “Our Life with 3 Guys and a Doll”. Why did I chose her as winner #1!  Because this lovely lady held nothing back!  Not only did she send me this picture…but she posted it to her blog as well.  So way not to hold back Tracy!

in her words "I have curly, frizzy hair that does not do well in the humid Maryland summers (or in dry summers either for that matter). " I hear ya about that MD Humidity Tracy!

  • Winner #2: Shelly of “It’s Just One Foot in Front of the Other”  Because well 1) she’s a rockstar, 2) she’s a rockstar, 3) she’s a rockstar. 4) she is never afraid to flaunt her post sweaty run pics for the world to see!  And well she’s pretty darn cool in general.

even in the pouring rain, Shelly and her Biking Sherpa rock the miles!

Stole this one off your blog Shelly...but I love it =)

  • Winner #3 was left all up to random.org!

comment #4 was Shelly. hahaha seriously Shelly did you bribe me without knowing...so I had it chose again...

Making the winning comment…Heather also happened to send me this picture of her in the lovely Maryland heat!

Okay I give up, everytime I rotate the picture it does this again!

  • So there you have it!  Winners, email me at KatyeRunninAround @ gmail.com and we’ll get you your selection!
  • Tonight is my track workout with my 5K group.  Seriously, they all really underestimated themselves at the begining and have been really impressing me!  They are a great group and I look forward to meeting with them every week!
  • Mod Cloth.  I love this website.  They have super cute and unique clothing for pretty decent prices.  Lately I’ve been eyeing up this number.  Think I can pull it off?
  • The exciting giveaways I have planned for this week!
  • Heidi Montag moderately coming to her senses. “The reality TV star has opened up for the first time about the regrets she has regarding her 2009 plastic surgery makeover, during which she had 10 major nips and tucks in one day.

She explains, “I’ve had my nose tape on 24 hours a day since November.

“The tape is supposed to keep the swelling down and hold my nose in place the way Dr. Ryan sculpted it.”

And Montag admits she’s beginning to fear the worst: “I don’t want my nose to fall off like Michael Jackson’s.”

And she also has huge regrets about her massive G-cup breast implants, adding, “My breasts are crushing me. My body’s still getting used to them and I have major anxiety about it.”.  Ouch.  She apparently is looking to get the implants removed.  Seriously Heidi…you didn’t think the size G was gunna be a problem?  And if she does get them removed I bet she is going to need reconstructive on her breast tissue and skin to look at all normal.

  • I have a headband named after me =) Not too long ago Sandy of “A Mom on the Run had a contest to name her non-slip headbands that she is making and selling for TNT (YAY!).  My suggestion was “BIC Bands” or “Because I Can Bands”.  And my name won!  So I got to pick out a ribbon to make the “Long Legs on the Loose/Katye” BIC band.  And this is what I picked.

    How cute?!

So today I got my Long Legs band as well as two other super cute ones I ordered from Sandy.  Check back for a BIC bands giveaway!

  • Having buddies to turn your 12 solo miles into a fun run =) Erin is meeting me for 12 on the trail Saturday.  YAY!

Nott

  • Spencer Pratt.  He’s just a permanent on this list.  Loving his “grungy Jesus” look and the NASCAR glasses.
  • My lazy dog digging all of my newly cleaned clothes out of the basket and sleeping in it before I folded them!

see that white and black blob among the clothes strewn every where! yep. that's my puppy.

  • Lindsay Lohan serving about 7% of her jail and rehab time.  Okay letting her out of jail months early was one thing…but she was ordered to spend 90 days at inpatient rehab and she was already released for out patient after like what a week?  Yep that’s definitely gunna be effective at teaching her consequences apply to her as well.  And do they honestly think out patient is going to do ANYTHING for her.  Oy veh.

    at least she's classy.

  • The weather! Finally!  It’s been like 75-80 the past few days making for beautiful running weather!  Forecast for me and Erin’s 12 miler on Saturday?  High of 70!

Okay well I think that’s it for me…what’s on your list this week?

P90X Take Two

Okay so I’ve finally committed.  My first set of P90X didn’t work.  Well actually half of them worked, the rest were unreadable.  Luckily I was sent a second set for free…2 months later.  But that’s okay because as of yesterday I have finally committed to the full 90 days!

Check out the “before” and keep up with my workouts HERE

Today was Chest and Back +Ab Ripper.  Me and J started with a quick 1 mile warm up run than it was all Tony.  Yes it is hard.  But I’m excited.  I can’t do a single pull up/chin up yet (I still have to have one foot on a chair which is still very difficult!) so I’m excited to see how my strength progresses.  About 3/4th of the way through Peanut decided to join the “essercise”.  She was doing some heavy lifting!  She killed the flys, rows, and “lawn mowers” with her weights (she used two remotes as dumbbells).  And killed some “push ups”.  She was so cute and so proud of herself.  She was mad when it was over but proceeded so show everyone her new muscles for the rest of the night.

that's actually me. Okay no its not.

J and I, on the other hand, were not sad when it was over.  By the end I could barely do a single pushup my arms were shaking so bad!  Its going to be a long but exciting 90 days.  I’m off for some Ab Ripper which I’ve actually one a few times and actually like alot.  Very challenging but way more fun that crunches.

Some fun giveaways coming up this week so get excited and check back!  Still have a few more hours to enter the Cam Band giveaway!

Skirts Skirts Skirts…

Hi.  My name is Katye.  And I’m a running skirt addict.  And not just any running skirts.  THE RUNNING SKIRTS from runningskirts.com I currently was 14 skirts in my possession.  And a “I heart running” thank.  and 4 pairs of Swift Socks (2 white, 1 haute pink, and 1 black).  In case you couldn’t tell, I seriously love this company.  And this doesn’t include the skirts I just ordered for my mom (I finally converted her), and the skirts I pre ordered from the fall line.  Be prepared people.  The fall line is AMAZING!

12 of my current 14. Not including the pink/haute pink one I'm wearing and the white one in the wash.

Aren’t they beautiful!  Don’t worry I didn’t pay full price for ALL of them.  I hunt out the sales, discount codes, etc.  But they are all so worth it.  Believe me, I was skeptical at first but once I tried my first skirt I was hooked and haven’t looked back.  No riding up or bunching.  So flattering!  So light weight…its true love.

But not only are the products amazing, the company behind them are so wonderful!  I can’t rave enough about the customer service I have received from the Running Skirts team.  Whether its a style question, sizing question, fashion question, an anything question they are there to help and happy to do it.  That’s why I love privately owned businesses.  They are real people.  They design, make, wear, and love their own products.  When you call or email, you get a real person, not a machine or hold.

I live in my skirts.  I wear them to run, work, class, shopping, around the house…etc.  They are function and cute!  I get compliments at every race and get at least 3 people ask “where’d you get your skirt?!”.  I fully blame Tonia for starting this addiction but I wouldn’t have it any other way!  So thank you T for being an enabler, and thank you Running Skirts for being so incredibly awesome!

Right now they have a contest going on through their facebook page HERE.  Check it out!  You have the chance to win a new running skirts outfit!
