My buds are YurBuds

And no I am not talking about friends or beer.  I’m talking about my super awesome most favorite ear buds.  I run with music.  I need to run with music.  It helps me regulate my pace and breathing and gets my adrenaline and energy up.  If I am with a friend I don’t always listen but if we ever run together, don’t be offended if I have one ear in.  I’m a good multi tasker.  I can listen to my friends and surrounding and the music too, even if I turn it way down.  I just like the beat.  But safety first of course.  If I’m not on the treadmill I don’t use both ears.  I also leave the side closest to traffic/passing runners and bikers free.

So why am I telling you all this?  Well glad you asked.  Last week I was contacted by a rep from Yurbuds.  I’m sure you have heard of Yurbuds but incase you haven’t, they are the most wonderful, custom fit, comfortable ear buds around.  I actually won my first pair from a blog giveaway and picked them up back at the Disney Princess Half expo and loved them from day one.  I was skeptical but the guy at the expo promised me 1) they will not fall out 2) they won’t make your ear hurt or ache after a while like most earbuds do, and 3) you can safe precious Ipod battery because you don’t need to set your volume nearly as high to get the same sound as standard earbuds.  They made good on all these promises =)

“These ergonomically brilliant, acoustically driven headphones provide an  unparalleled level of comfort and fidelity for athletes, runners, and  music lovers. The patented Ear-Lock technology guarantees a secure fit,  even at extreme activity levels.”-www.yurbud.com

So the fitting process is interesting.  You simply take a picture of your ear with a standard Ipod Earbud OR your ear with a quarter held up next to it, email it to them, and they determine what size is appropriate.

I was SO excited when they emailed me about trying these out.   As I said, I got my first pair back in march but sadly lost one of my Yurbuds in San Diego.  During the last 3 miles of the marathon, I started talking to a lady next to me and I ripped the headphones out by the cord rather roughly and my poor yurbud flew off the ear bud.  There was no turning back.  So I jumped at the chance to for another pair.

And of course I opted for the Susan B. Komen Pink addition

Yurbuds come with the costume yurbud ear bud covers, a nylon zipper pouch, and a set of ear bud style head phones (I just slipped the yurbuds over my regular head phones because I don’t like change).  So yes, this is an AMAZING product.  The $30 price tag may seem steep but they are totally worth it!

Don’t want to pay $30 but want a pair of Yurbuds?  Well they have generously offered to send one of you your own custom fitted pair!

  1. On solo runs over 6 miles I run with music and I usually race with music unless I have an iPod-tastrophe. But I never run with both earbuds in. Even during a race.

  2. Consider yourself linked. I totally need to win this one, my current earbuds are busted and peeling and cut up my ear. Maybe Yurbuds should just let me do a review and host a giveaway …

  3. I run and race with music. It’s usually only on as background noise and mostly to keep me from getting too far into my own head. Without music I find that I start to think about what’s going on at home and that’s not really the point, is it?

I don’t use it on clinic nights too often as I like the people I run with and don’t find I need it, but I will use my iPod on hard days (hills, track) just for the motivation.

  4. I don’t think its rude to run with earbuds in as long as the people you are running with are aware. People should be able to understand that whatever keeps you going is a good thing!

  6. as long as the friend doesn’t mind i dont think its rude… personally, i enjoy the company way more than my music so i put my ipod away if someone is actually willing to run with me :D

  7. I don’t think it’s rude to listen to music with others. Of course, I typically run alone and the only time I run with others is with my sister and she totally understands that sometimes I need the music!

  8. yes i race with music. usually, i listen to audiobooks during my solo long runs. this is just so that i won’t get caught up and crank my pace up too much. and it distracts me. during a race i want to be in the zone and focused, so i listen to music. never so loud that i can’t hear whats going on around me or disturb people. if i’m just racing for fun or with friends, i wouldn’t probably take my ipod at all. there’s enough during races to entertain oneself.

  9. If the running buddies are new running buddies, then yes it is rude unless you talk about it first. Once you have a few runs together then it seems better, unless your buddy needs to talk through some things.

  10. I don’t race with music. Seems like more of a hassle than it is worth. Plus, most races say no music and I see no reason to break that rule. Although, there was this one time when I needed to take my mind off of the food poisoning I had so I raced with music. I think it is one of the few reasons I finished my 9.2 miles…the music and the fact that it was a relay so the others were counting on me. OK, long answer to a short question.

  11. My power song is a remixed version of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin” from the Biggest Loser Workout cd. The beat is awesome, and the lyrics totally motivational!

  12. I think as long as you clarify ahead of time “Hey I’m gonna run with my iPod, is that okay with you?”, you should be fine. And you should only run with one headphone in, for sure.

  13. I’m kinda like you, if its going to be a longish run, I’ll bring my iPod and have one earbud in. I don’t run with others too much though, although I really want to!!

  14. I do run with music, almost all the time. It keeps me going, helps me pick up the pace. I haven’t run a race yet with music, because I’ve mostly done races with others and stayed with them. But I’m doing a race in November ad for the first time I plan to really try to get to the finish my fastest (it’s a half) and not worry about staying with others. So I probably will listen to music

  15. I think it is rude to listen to music when running with a friend/buddy. I’m alright with the person having one earbud/headphone in and keeping one ear free for listening to conversation. Some of us do need that music for motivation and to keep a pace. But if you make a point to run with a friend, don’t ignore then by sticking in your earbuds/headphones and blasting your music.

  16. I used to run with music, but since I’ve been running with friends I’ve stopped listening to it. I always bring my iPod and headphones with me, but only put them in when I need it. I also race with music. It really helps me stay motivated and helps me run faster! But I keep the volume down so that I can hear people coming up behind me.

  17. Oh yea…..I know I just won a pair, but I’m entering this one for my Husband. He’s totally jealous and his birthday is next weekend. This would be so cool if I could win him a pair :)

  18. I run with music…gives me something to do. I also run with the Nike+ sensor, so i run with that as a little extra motivation.

  19. If you are use to having music play while u run then I don’t think it’s rude to have it playing with a buddy as long as….. Maybe you take one earphone out and or have the music low. That way you still hear the beat of music to get your pace, but don’t seem rude to your buddy.
