And no I am not talking about friends or beer. I’m talking about my super awesome most favorite ear buds. I run with music. I need to run with music. It helps me regulate my pace and breathing and gets my adrenaline and energy up. If I am with a friend I don’t always listen but if we ever run together, don’t be offended if I have one ear in. I’m a good multi tasker. I can listen to my friends and surrounding and the music too, even if I turn it way down. I just like the beat. But safety first of course. If I’m not on the treadmill I don’t use both ears. I also leave the side closest to traffic/passing runners and bikers free.
So why am I telling you all this? Well glad you asked. Last week I was contacted by a rep from Yurbuds. I’m sure you have heard of Yurbuds but incase you haven’t, they are the most wonderful, custom fit, comfortable ear buds around. I actually won my first pair from a blog giveaway and picked them up back at the Disney Princess Half expo and loved them from day one. I was skeptical but the guy at the expo promised me 1) they will not fall out 2) they won’t make your ear hurt or ache after a while like most earbuds do, and 3) you can safe precious Ipod battery because you don’t need to set your volume nearly as high to get the same sound as standard earbuds. They made good on all these promises =)
“These ergonomically brilliant, acoustically driven headphones provide an unparalleled level of comfort and fidelity for athletes, runners, and music lovers. The patented Ear-Lock technology guarantees a secure fit, even at extreme activity levels.”-www.yurbud.com
So the fitting process is interesting. You simply take a picture of your ear with a standard Ipod Earbud OR your ear with a quarter held up next to it, email it to them, and they determine what size is appropriate.
I was SO excited when they emailed me about trying these out. As I said, I got my first pair back in march but sadly lost one of my Yurbuds in San Diego. During the last 3 miles of the marathon, I started talking to a lady next to me and I ripped the headphones out by the cord rather roughly and my poor yurbud flew off the ear bud. There was no turning back. So I jumped at the chance to for another pair.
Yurbuds come with the costume yurbud ear bud covers, a nylon zipper pouch, and a set of ear bud style head phones (I just slipped the yurbuds over my regular head phones because I don’t like change). So yes, this is an AMAZING product. The $30 price tag may seem steep but they are totally worth it!
Don’t want to pay $30 but want a pair of Yurbuds? Well they have generously offered to send one of you your own custom fitted pair!

second power song – abracadabra – Steve Miller Band or Sugar Ray (who remade it)
And number three – Misery Business – Paramore
It is only rude if you do not make your running buddy aware of the music being in your ear …
On solo runs over 6 miles I run with music and I usually race with music unless I have an iPod-tastrophe. But I never run with both earbuds in. Even during a race.
me either! way too dangerous. I always have one in
Consider yourself linked. I totally need to win this one, my current earbuds are busted and peeling and cut up my ear. Maybe Yurbuds should just let me do a review and host a giveaway …
My first kiss is one of my favorite songs right now when I need to pick up the pace.
I also like “My life would suck without you” by kelly clarkson.
and I Run for Life by Melissa Ethridge
I bring my music when I run with friends, but I don’t always listen to it. If I do, it’s at a level where I can still here all the conversation.
I always race with music. It makes me faster, I swear!
I added your giveaway to my blog.
fighter!
stronger!
pinks rockstar song (so what?)
not rude if you leave one ear bud out to chat!

Yay for the awesome giveaway!
O-kay, I really like, “I’ve gotta feeling” by Black Eyed Peas
“Womanizer” by Britney Spears…I know, I know, but it’s a good running song
Here’s another one: “Hey” by Black Eyed Peas
No, I don’t think it’s rude to run with music when you’re with a buddy b/c that’s what helps us get through the miles. Now, turning it up so loud that you can’t hear your buddy is talking..that’s rude!
I’ve done races when I’ve listened to music and ones when I haven’t and I have to say that I prefer running with music when I race longer distances (10K and higher).
Song #1 – Gotta Reason by Hard-Fi
Song #2 – Supersonic by Pearl Jam
Song #3 – Get On Your Boots by U2
Not rude if you’re nice about it… only one ear in, volume low enough to still be able to carry on a conversation if you want to.
I run and race with music. It’s usually only on as background noise and mostly to keep me from getting too far into my own head. Without music I find that I start to think about what’s going on at home and that’s not really the point, is it?
I don’t use it on clinic nights too often as I like the people I run with and don’t find I need it, but I will use my iPod on hard days (hills, track) just for the motivation.

Animals–Nickleback
Bleed It Out–Linkin Park
Dinosaur –Ke$ha
I don’t think its rude to run with earbuds in as long as the people you are running with are aware. People should be able to understand that whatever keeps you going is a good thing!
I always run, training or races, with music. I keep the music pretty darn low though, just to be safe.
Livin on a prayer-Bon Jovi
I’ve gotta feeling-Black Eyed Peas
Don’t Stop Believing-Journey
I don’t think its rude as long as you have the music low enough and aren’t completely ignoring the person

Casscada – Evacuate the dancefloor.
Michael Buble – Comin’ Home Baby
The 2010 Canadian Olympic Song I belive by Nikki Yanofsky. A lot of people hate it but I love it near the end of a run.
Its only rude if you’re the one who asked them to run and you don’t ask if its ok with them if you have some pump me up stuff on low.
I do run with music usually. Since I do some runs at 5:30 am I need something to help keep me awake and on pace. a good song can always put me in a good mood.

i always listen to music while racing! It helps me to pace myself…
as long as the friend doesn’t mind i dont think its rude… personally, i enjoy the company way more than my music so i put my ipod away if someone is actually willing to run with me
powersong = cliche lol…. eye of the tiger or the space jam soundtrack lol…
I’m in a Hurry by Alabama..I am often more inspired by the words than the beat..so this one is fitting for me
Pressure by Billy Joel
Salsa de Noche by The Gypsy Kings
When running with some of my local running friends, I find that most of them run with their music in one ear…we still chat, but have the music to push us if we need it!
SOmetimes…I find that it can help me at times and others it just becomes noise and bothers me…
Powersong nr. 1: I’ve got a feeling – Black Eyed Peas
Powersong nr. 2: New York Girls – Morningwood
Powersong nr. 3: Death and all his friends – Coldplay
When running with my runningbuddy I don’t have my Ipod with me. We’re talking during the run, and the music would just distract me from all the gossip.
I run and race with music. It helps me to keep my face and to zone out in the run.

Song 1: Galvanize (Push the Button) – Chemical Brothers
Song 2: The Good Life – One Republic
Song 3: Chillin’ – Wale feat. Lady Gaga
I don’t think it’s rude to listen to music with others. Of course, I typically run alone and the only time I run with others is with my sister and she totally understands that sometimes I need the music!
Yes, I listen to music most of the time. It really helps me just zone out and enjoy the run. I try to be safe about it though!
I posted a link to this contest on my blog
i’m a little obsessed with eminem right now. ’til i collapse is my current #1
coming in at #2 is check yes juliet by we the kings
#3 would have to be ke$ha’s your love is my drug
when running with friends i usually do whatever they’re doing. one bud in if they have their ipod too. but if they’re running without music i do too.
yes i race with music. usually, i listen to audiobooks during my solo long runs. this is just so that i won’t get caught up and crank my pace up too much. and it distracts me. during a race i want to be in the zone and focused, so i listen to music. never so loud that i can’t hear whats going on around me or disturb people. if i’m just racing for fun or with friends, i wouldn’t probably take my ipod at all. there’s enough during races to entertain oneself.
My original power song is Boom Boom Pow by Black Eyed Peas. It has a good beat and makes me feel like dancing!
2nd power song is Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson. This is not a typical power song, but it takes me back to my high school dance team days and I love it!
My last one is Lose Yourself by Eminem. I think some of his music is nasty and disgusting, but this one really pumps me up.
ohh i so need these.
power song: I pray for you – Jaron (so funny)
power song: Airplanes by BOB
Power song: I still like Christina – Stonger
most of the time I would say yes listening while running is rude, but if one of you has said up front hey I’m having a tough day or whatever and may not feel like talking then it’s ok
I actually really love a nice run with music and especially on race day. Maybe it’s because I run with people so much that I rarely get to do it
Lately I love ‘Man! I feel like a woman” by Twain. It just gives me some pep in my run and I always smile through it.
If the running buddies are new running buddies, then yes it is rude unless you talk about it first. Once you have a few runs together then it seems better, unless your buddy needs to talk through some things.
I don’t race with music. Seems like more of a hassle than it is worth. Plus, most races say no music and I see no reason to break that rule. Although, there was this one time when I needed to take my mind off of the food poisoning I had so I raced with music. I think it is one of the few reasons I finished my 9.2 miles…the music and the fact that it was a relay so the others were counting on me. OK, long answer to a short question.
Power Song #1 – Avalanche by Manafest
Power Song #2 Good Girls Go Bad by Cobra
Power Song #3 Gives You Hell – by All American Rejects
I don’t think it’s rude to listen to music while running with a partner – as long as they’re okay with it too!
I don’t usually run with music because I try to concentrate on my form and breathing. Sometimes I find when I have my iPod on, i’m not actually listening to it anyway!

My power song is a remixed version of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin” from the Biggest Loser Workout cd. The beat is awesome, and the lyrics totally motivational!
I think as long as you clarify ahead of time “Hey I’m gonna run with my iPod, is that okay with you?”, you should be fine. And you should only run with one headphone in, for sure.
I do race with music, only because I never run without it and the change totally messes with my head…not something I’d want on race day!
My power song of the moment “4 minutes” by Madonna/Justin Timberlake/Timbaland
I usually run by myself and always have music …but when I do run with a friend the iPod stays home!
I race with music – helps me to pace.
I linked you on my blog!
Boom Boom Pow by Black Eyed Peas definitely gets me going! I usually place it strategically in my playlist for when I need a pick me up.
Satellite by P.O.D.
Empire State of Mind
I’m kinda like you, if its going to be a longish run, I’ll bring my iPod and have one earbud in. I don’t run with others too much though, although I really want to!!
I do run with music, almost all the time. It keeps me going, helps me pick up the pace. I haven’t run a race yet with music, because I’ve mostly done races with others and stayed with them. But I’m doing a race in November ad for the first time I plan to really try to get to the finish my fastest (it’s a half) and not worry about staying with others. So I probably will listen to music
I think it is rude to listen to music when running with a friend/buddy. I’m alright with the person having one earbud/headphone in and keeping one ear free for listening to conversation. Some of us do need that music for motivation and to keep a pace. But if you make a point to run with a friend, don’t ignore then by sticking in your earbuds/headphones and blasting your music.
I used to run with music, but since I’ve been running with friends I’ve stopped listening to it. I always bring my iPod and headphones with me, but only put them in when I need it. I also race with music. It really helps me stay motivated and helps me run faster! But I keep the volume down so that I can hear people coming up behind me.

My Power Song has got to be “Remember the Name” by Fort Minor. I have a huge list of pump-me-up songs, but that one is totally a Power Song.
Oh yea…..I know I just won a pair, but I’m entering this one for my Husband. He’s totally jealous and his birthday is next weekend. This would be so cool if I could win him a pair
Fav. Power song right now Take It Off Kesha
Power song #2 Telephone Lady Gaga (can you tell I have a 15yr old dancer?)
#3 Dynamite Taio Cruz
I run with music…gives me something to do. I also run with the Nike+ sensor, so i run with that as a little extra motivation.
i got a feeling, black eyed peas.
like a virgin, madonna.
maneater, can’t remember
um, i think it’s a little rude– if you want to run w/someone i don’t think you should have your ipod on. i’d save that for running alone….
i’m linking you to my blog
If you are use to having music play while u run then I don’t think it’s rude to have it playing with a buddy as long as….. Maybe you take one earphone out and or have the music low. That way you still hear the beat of music to get your pace, but don’t seem rude to your buddy.
I only run with music when I run alone. If I am with friends I don’t need the music
Anything by Buck Cherry is a good power song.
Crazy game of poker by OAR is a good power song
Imma be black eyed peas or my hump

My power song is probably Mr. Brightside by the Killers. Strong beat, strong lyrics, great jam!
Number 1 running song: I”ve Gotta Feeling
No. 2 song – Eye of the Tiger
No. 3 Running Song – We’ve Got the Beat. (don’t laugh; it gets me going….)
It’s not rude to wear an iPod with a friend. But, if it prevents you from communicating with each other it is; you should be able to hear what he/she says to you.
I use music on the windtrainer. I’m thinking of running with an iPod for longer runs but I need to pick up a smaller one; Yurbuds would be nice too:)
one of my favorite songs: “Dont Stop Believing” remix — with Journey and Michael Jackson
I also like to run to Pink “Waking Up In Vegas”
Here is a country one: “Settlin” by Sugarland
I don’t think it is rude if you are both doing it…. a lot of times I will take one earpiece out and have the volume down so I can stay in the conversation.
I always race with music — it makes me faster!!
